In August I ventured a few hours north to Olympia for a Pinkle Toes Photography Workshop weekend. And it was such an amazing experience. It was like a girls weekend away while also learning a ton about photography and running my photography business. How can you go wrong with that?
We started out the workshop with lots of business talk and some headshots in the evening taken by the amazing Pinkle Toes herself. And while being in front of the camera is not where I usually feel the most comfortable, she was so fun to work with and I love what she captured. You may even recognize one of these from my About Me page!
The next morning we headed out to do an in-home newborn session. Even though I mostly just watched and soaked it all in, I still managed to snap a few quick pictures of the session.
That evening we headed out for an in-home family session and I decided to leave my camera behind and just watch and learn.
But, after another late evening of amazing photography discussions, I was ready to practice some new tricks at a maternity shoot early the next morning. She gave us each 2 challenges (drawn at random) and my challenges were to 1) Try a new lens and 2) Capture a reflection. So, I borrowed a 70-200 lens from one of the other girls at the workshop (thank you Dawn!) and gave it a go. The lens was super fun to shoot with and catching a reflection was pretty easy since we were down on the waterfront. Even though the sun was super bright, it was fun to challenge myself and to try new things. Now if only she had let me keep that awesome lens . . .
The workshop was such a fantastic experience. I met some amazing new photographer friends, challenged myself and am still soaking in all the advice and tricks I learned during the workshop.
